The Greek Community School at St. Cyprian’s is steeped in history. It is the amalgamation of Tooting, Croydon and Streatham districts community schools which had been operating independently since the 1970s. However, they were now supporting the efforts of the Greek Association for Language Enhancement (GALE) to establish a state Greek Orthodox Primary school, which could then house the community schools. Moreover, recognising the staffing difficulties of the Cyprus Education Mission (KEA) who supply us with some teachers, they unanimously agreed to amalgamate and bring the three schools under one roof, that of our community’s newly established, state Greek Orthodox Primary school.
Our Community School at St. Cyprian’s was therefore established, in the year 2000 coinciding with the opening of the state St. Cyprian’s Greek orthodox Primary School.
A committee of parents are democratically elected at the annual general meeting (AGM) and they make up the governing body of the school. They work voluntarily for a term of two years, governing all financial and organisational aspects of our school.
